Meet Mitch!

Support Worker

Hello!

About Mitch

I’m a dedicated para‑athlete working toward my long‑term goal of representing Australia at the Paralympics in 2028 or 2032 as a PR1 para rower. As a SASI scholarship athlete, a big part of my life revolves around training — spending time in the gym, on the water, and balancing my sport with my studies. I’m currently completing a Bachelor of Geography, Environmental and Population Studies, which keeps me organised, focused, and motivated.

Outside of training and study, I enjoy rowing, gaming, golf, and spending time with my dog. I’m someone who values routine, discipline, and staying active, but I also enjoy downtime and connecting with people.

I decided to become a support worker after working in the hospitality industry and realising I wanted a career where I could make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Being around other para‑athletes and their carers showed me how meaningful and rewarding this work can be. I want to bring that same positive impact to others — not just by providing support, but by being someone who encourages, listens, and helps people feel confident and cared for.

Experience

Through my involvement in the High-Performance Para Rowing Program, I’ve had the privilege of spending time with athletes with a wide range of disabilities — including autism, limb differences, quadriplegia, and vision impairments. Being part of this environment has given me a deep understanding of inclusion, accessibility, and respectful communication. I’ve formed strong friendships with people of all abilities, and those relationships have shaped the way I approach support: with dignity, patience, and genuine connection.I’ve also spent a lot of time around their careers and support teams, and seeing the way they empowered and supported the athletes is what inspired me to become a support worker myself. Their encouragement and the positive impact they had on people’s lives gave me a glimpse into how rewarding this sector can be, and it motivated me to pursue this path.
